During the War of Independence (January 1919 - July 1921), the applicant claims that she was engaged in fundraising, first-aid training and supplying information to IRA forces before the Tourmakeady ambush. Taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War (June 1922 - May 1923), Mary Tuffy states that she was engaged in similar work.
