Applicant claimed membership of Cumann na mBan in the service periods between 01 April 1918 and 30 September 1923 during the War of Independence, Truce period and Civil War. Margaret Walsh states that she was a member of the Brockagh Branch, [2 Battalion], West Mayo Brigade, Cumann na mBan under the command of N Kelly. During the War of Independence (January 1919 - July 1921), she claims that she was engaged in dispatch work, fundraising and organising work. Applicant states that she had three brothers active with the IRA. Taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War (June 1922 - May 1923), Margaret Walsh states that she catered for and sheltered IRA forces and escape IRA prisoners.
