Subject Information File relates to Eamon Christopher Young's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the Irish Volunteers during the week of 23 to 29 April 1916, his subsequent imprisonment until May of that year, his service with the IRA from 1921 to 1922 during the War of Independence and part of the Truce period and his service with the National Army from February 1922 until the end of the Civil War in 1923. During the War of Independence Eamon Young served on the staff of Patrick McGurk, Brigade Quartermaster of the Dublin Brigade IRA and had the responsibility for storing Brigade documentation as well as for distributing arms and ammunition. Eamon Young continued to serve with the Defence Forces until his retirement in 1946 at the rank of Captain. Claimant also applied unsuccessfully for service between 1917 and 1921. File includes: signed handwritten statements regarding Eamon Young's service from Major J. Furlong, Commandant Christopher Farrell, Garda Patrick J. Young, Captain Thomas Young, Major Liam Archer and Senator Thomas Farren; handwritten notes of evidence given by Eamon Young before the board of Assessors, Military Service Pensions Act, 1924; material relating to subject's National Army and Defence Forces record of service; reference to his receipt of a 1916 Medal and a Service (1917-1921) Medal with Bar; and material relating to claimant's widow, four (4) daughters and three (3) sons - partly closed.
