Subject Information File relates to Michael Lavelle’s application for a wound pension or gratuity under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of wounds received by him while serving with the National Army, which he joined in on 15 September 1922, at Westport, County Mayo. On 23 November 1922 Lavelle was shot in the right cheek (through the mouth and lower jaw), during an engagement with Irregulars [anti-Treaty IRA] at Newport, County Mayo. He was discharged as medically unfit on 11 March 1924 and received a £10 gratuity in respect of his injury.
