File relates to Patrick Duffy's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1920 and 31 March 1923. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods.
Duffy claims that he mobilised during Easter Week, 1916. Says that during the War of Independence he was involved in intelligence work. States that in April 1921 he joined Kilroy's Active Service Unit (Flying Column) and that he took part in an ambush at Clogher Cross and Carrowkenedy, County Mayo. During the Truce period (12 July 1921 - 30 June 1922) Duffy claims that he attended training camps for two or three months and that he went into a barracks. Following the outbreak of the Civil War applicant states that he took part in the attack on Clifden, County Galway and Castlebar, Wesport, County Mayo. Says that he was arrested in December 1922 and that he was released the following morning. Claims that he joined the Active Service Unit following his release.
