O'Brennan says that he joined the Irish Volunteers in 1913. States that in March 1916 he was in the Volunteer Hall in Tullamore when it was raided by the RIC (Royal Irish Constabulary) and that he fired two shots which injured an RIC Sergeant. Says that he helped to cover the retreat of Peadar Bracken and Seamus Brennan. Subject claims that he was arrested and court-martialled in relation to the wounding of the RIC Sergeant. Says that he was released in June 1916, re-joined the Irish Volunteers and took part in the usual activities. In 1919 O'Brennan states that he watched the movement of British forces and that he carried dispatches. In June 1920 applicant claims that he was in charge of road blocking during attacks on Geashill and Clara Barracks. O'Brennan claims that he was involved in an armed attack on British forces at Ballycommon Bridge in which a civilian was killed. Says that his brother Ned Brennan and Seán Mahon were in charge of attack. Mentions that he took part in three raids for mail. Subject says that in the autumn of 1920 he brought McGuinness and members of his Active Service Unit (Flying Column) from Kilbeggan to Geashill where they killed an RIC Head Constable. O'Brennan mentions that he took no part in the shooting. Claims that his home was used by the Flying Column and that he supplied them with food and clothing.
