File relates to Patrick Lambert's receipt of a military service pension in respect of his service with the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1920 and 30 September 1923. Applicant also claimed unsuccessfully for other periods.
Claims that he was initially involved in routine activities, company drills, parades and involved in the anti-conscription campaign. States that he held the rank of First Lieutenant and that there were approximately 120 men in his company. Claims that he took part in the burning of Quay Barracks, Westport and that he later joined the Active Service Unit (Flying Column) under the command of Michael Kilroy. Says that he took part in engagements at: Kilmeena, Skirdagh and Carrowkennedy. States that he took part in the burning of the barracks at Drummin. Claims that in the Truce period he was among the garrison in Castlebar Barracks and that between February and July 1922 he was in Westport and that he attended training camp for approximately 6 weeks. Following the outbreak of the Civil War applicant claims that he was again with the Active Service Unit under the command of Andrew Molloy. Says that he took part in the burning of the military barracks in Castlebar. Applicant states that he did not take part in any fighting against National Army forces and that he was on the run until late 1923 or early 1924.

File (DP5257) relates to Lambert's unsuccessful application for a wound pension or gratuity under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of disease contracted by him while serving with the IRA. Claimed that he suffered from general debility, nerves and bronchitis as a result of service. Disesae not deemed attributable to service. Stated that on 7 February 1921 he was taken from his bed and beaten by members of the British forces.
The Military Service Registration Board recognised service within the meaning of Part II of the Army Pensions Act, 1932 between 1920 and July 1921.
