| Subject Information |
File relates to Bridget Barrett’s unsuccessful application under the Army Pensions Acts in respect of the death of her son John Barrett who died on 9 July 1931. Cause of death recorded as phthisis and meningitis. Bridget Barrett died in March 1938. Her death determined her claim.
Claimed in file that Barrett was active with Sinn Féin from 1918. Noted in file that Barrett’s home was “wrecked” by National Forces in June 1923. John Lynchehan notes in reference that Barrett blocked roads and asissted the Active Service Unit (Flying Column). Claimed in file that Barrett was a Company Captain with a North Mayo Brigade area. However the Military Service Registration Board did not award any recognised service.
