File relates to Michael (Patrick) Ginley’s unsuccessful application for a military service pension in respect of his claimed service with the Irish Volunteers and the IRA for part of the periods between 1 April 1918 and 30 September 1923.
Claims that he was a member of Dooega Company, 4 Battalion, North West Mayo Brigade. During the War of Independence applicant claims that he assisted in making dugouts and in collecting arms.
Following the outbreak of the Civil War applicant claims that he was involved in an engagement with National Army troops at Newport on 23 December 1922. States that he was a member of the Active Service Unit (Flying Column), 5 Brigade, 4 Western Division. Claims that he also assisted in making dugouts and in canvassing for the 1923 General Election.
Stated that he held the rank of Company Quartermaster on both critical dates.
