File relates to Bridget Malone’s unsuccessful application for a military service pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934. Applicant claimed membership of Cumann na mBan in the service periods between 01 April 1918 and 30 September 1923 during the War of Independence, Truce period and Civil War. Bridget Malone states that she was a member of the Aughagower Branch, 3 Battalion, West Mayo Brigade, Cumann na mBan under the command of Miss Winifred Duffy Sheridan and Eamon Moane. During the War of Independence (January 1919 – July 1921), she claims that she took part in organising dances and concerts; first-aid training; sentry duty for IRA men on the run; catering and washing clothes for IRA men on the run; storing arms and tending to sick and wounded IRA members.
Taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War, the subject claims that she took part in routine activity.
