File relates to Miss Annie Lyons’ unsuccessful application under the Army Pensions Acts, 1932 in respect of the death of her brother Edward Lyons who died on 13 October 1924. It is stated on file that Edward Lyons was Battalion Commandant of Newport Battalion, [West Mayo Brigade], IRA up until his arrest on 24 October 1920 during the War of Independence (January 1919 – July 1921). Lyons was sentenced to nine months imprisonment and held in Galway Prison until transfer to Dundrum Criminal Lunatic Asylum, Dundrum, County Dublin where he died on 13 October 1924.
File includes completed application form.
