File relates to Sarah Jane Walsh‘s (neé Gill) unsuccessful application for a military service pension under the Military Service Pensions Act 1934 and successful application for service (1917-1921) medal which was issued in 1955. Walsh states she was a member of the Westport Cumann na mBan company from 1 April 1921 till 30 September 1923. During the War of Independence (January 1919 - July 1921) Walsh claims she catered for the Column men (Active Service Unit). During the Civil War (June 1922 - May 1923) she states she carried dispatches, did scout duty, helped transport arms and did intelligence work.
File includes: application for service (1917-1921) medal (issued 1950); letter of reference from Thomas J Gill (3 February 1969); application for Special Allowance (17 October 1955).
