Subject Information |
File relates to Mary Tuffy’s unsuccessful application for a military service pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934. Applicant claimed membership of Cumann na mBan in the service periods between 01 April 1917 and 30 September 1923 during the War of Independence, Truce period and Civil War.
Mary Tuffy states that she was a member of the Killawalla Branch of Cumann na mBan in County Mayo under the command of Mrs B McGlynn. During the War of Independence (January 1919 - July 1921), the applicant claims that she was engaged in fundraising, first-aid training and supplying information to IRA forces before the Tourmakeady ambush.
Taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War (June 1922 - May 1923), Mary Tuffy states that she was engaged in similar work.
