| Subject Information |
File relates to Anne Berry's unsuccessful military service pension application. Anne Berry claimed for service with Aughagower Company, [3 Battalion, West Mayo Brigade], Cumann na mBan in the service periods between 30 April 1916 and 30 September 1923.
Anne Berry claimed that she served as Company Treasurer. Subject and references state that during the War of Independence and Civil War Anne Berry raised and collected funds; procured and conveyed arms and ammunition; did dispatch work - it is claimed that her home was the main IRA communications centre in the Westport area and that she was personally responsible for despatches coming through; did look out and scouting duties for the local Active Service Unit; and fed and billeted IRA members at her home. It is also stated that a dug out was built on her family's property and used during the Civil War.
File includes: original handwritten material submitted and signed by Anne Berry in support of her application; and signed handwritten statements regarding subject's service from J Flaherty, Edward Moane and Patrick Duffy.
