File relates to Mary Clancy’s unsuccessful application for a Military Service Pension under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.
Mary Clancy states that she joined the Cush Branch of Cumann na mBan which was attached to 5 Battalion area, East Limerick Brigade, IRA. During the War of Independence (January 1919 – July 1921), the applicant claims that she served under the command of Denis Hannigan (24SP9556), Thomas Malone (aka Sean Forde) (MSP34REF55366) and Tadg Crowley (MSP34REF60696) and took part in fundraising; dispatch work and nursing injured IRA Volunteers.
Taking the anti-Treaty side in the Civil War (June 1922 – May 1923), Mary Clancy states that she took part in similar activity under the command of Seamus Malone and Michael Cloghessy.
Subject did not appear before the Advisory Committee and did not provide any references. Representations were made by her brother David Clancy.
