File relates to the efforts of the Office of the Referee, Military Service Pensions Act, 1934 to ascertain the strength of 2 Battalion (Claregalway), Mid Galway Brigade, IRA on the first and second critical dates – 11 July 1921 and 1 July 1922 respectively – to assist in the processing of military service pension applications received under that legislation.
This Battalion covered part of County Galway and ceased to exist prior to 1 July 1922. According to material on file following a reorganisation units were transferred to various Brigades in 1 Western Division and 2 Western Division, IRA. See below for further information.
