Title Advertisements: Army Pensions Acts-Advertising, Posters etc 
Scope and Content The material on file relates to the introduction of changes and amendments to existing legislation from 1932 regarding the eligibility for claiming allowances, pensions, other benefits (such as free travel, free electricity allowance, free television and radio licence allowances) and pension adjustments such as disease or final wound pensions, the introduction of flat rate pensions for veterans of the named organisations from the period 1916 – 1923 and latterly by widows of such veterans falling variously within the terms of the Army Pension Act, 1932 to 1982, as amended by statute and regulation File contains copy correspondence and copy letters between the Department of Defence, the Department of Finance, the office of the Parliamentary Draughtsman with copy regulations in draft manuscript, in type and in print and copy posters in type and print in English, with proof and copy translations and printed versions in the Irish Language completed by the Translation Bureau, Leinster House and other related material regarding the placing of orders for advertisements in national and local newspapers. Includes copy correspondence between Department of Defence, Department of Post and Telegraphs, the Department of Justice, The Commissioner, An Garda Siochana arranging for delivery and display of posters at post offices and Garda stations in the state. Correspondence also deals with ensuring that there are copy notices for inclusion with the pension or other payment warrants for veterans on payroll under the various Acts. File also contains relevant newspaper cuttings of the advertisements placed in national and local newspapers in the state and in the ‘six counties’ (Northern Ireland).The newspapers are named in each case and factual errors in type are noted for re-printing/correction in certain cases. File also contains copy of a Government Information Services release on behalf of the Department of Defence regarding the rules governing the award of pensions for widows of members of the Permanent Defence Force which “..may make it possible for certain widows to qualify for a widow’s pension” (2pp dated 5 July 1985).
