Scope and Content Four related documents as follows: Copy letter from Desmond Fitzgerald, Minister for Defence to Secretary, Department of Defence, ordering the destruction by fire of categories of documents, the disclosure of which to unauthorised persons could lead to loss of life. (1p dated 7 March 1932). Attached are three copies of signed and dated ( 9 March 1932) certificates of compliance in manuscript as follows: To Chief of Staff from Commandant Dan Bryan, countersigned by Captain Niall Harrington, 2nd Bureau ( Intelligence reports); to Secretary (Department of Defence) from Major J.S. Hartnett, Deputy Judge Advocate General ( proceedings of military courts ) and to [ ] from Risteard O’hEigeartaigh certifying among other things that “such intelligence reports and secret service vouchers as have been in the possession of the Minister have been destroyed”. (Note; Copy letter from Minister for Defence can be found in the National Archives, NAI, DT 2002/8/66 and a Photostat copy in Military Archives, BMH.CD/334.)
