File contains letters, copy letters, letters in draft, minutes and papers relating to the issue of the 1916 Medal, The Service (1917-1921) Medal without Bar, demands for recognition for non-pensionable 1916 service and requests for the issue of Certificates as to entitlement to medals issued and holders of same from Old IRA Organisations and information as to the re-examination of applications of persons who have been awarded Service Medal, without Bar. Includes letter from the Secretary, United Conference of Old IRA Organisations requesting a document to prove rightful ownership of Military Service Medals. ( /2 dated 18 October 1944); letter from Assistant Finance Officer (J.O’Connor) to Finance Officer outlining an examination of the question of granting some recognition of non-pensionable service in Easter Week 1916 contains annotations by the Finance Officer and includes minute from Secretary Department of Defence to Minister for Defence and decision of the Minister ( /8 to / 10 dated 15 December 1945); letter from Secretary, United Conference of Old IRA Organisations to Minister for Defence requests the issue of a certificate that Medal was “duly awarded”, to genuine cases following notification that the Department is to reinvestigate the award of medals already issued to standardise the process of verification, includes copy of three proforma for this purpose, Memo from O’Connor and reply to Secretary ( / 11 to/19 dated 30 Mean Fomhair ( September) 1946).letter from Secretary, United Conference of Old IRA Organisations returns to their claim to have certificates issued in connection with registration of men at Local Offices [for Unemployment].
