Scope and Content File contains copy correspondence between the Secretary, Department of Justice and the Secretary Department of Defence relating to the ranks to be claimed/awarded to those members of the Detective Branch, Dublin Metropolitan Police with prior service in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) (formerly Oriel House) vis-à-vis the treatment of former comrades who had joined the National Army and were later appointed Commissioned Officers. A Minute Sheet outlines briefly the history of the CID, Officers Protective Corps and the Civil Defence Force (3pp dated 17 April [1925]. A Draft letter is sent by Secretary, Department of Defence (C.B.O’Connor) to Lt Gen Gearoid O’Suilleabhain (Secretary, Board of Assessors) before it is issued to Department of Justice 3pp dated 14 May 1925. Further representation are made by Justice (1p dated 28 April 1928) and notification of the re-opening and upgrading of the awards made in 18 cases to Lieutenant rank is notified by Defence on 31 May 1928 (1p)
